Designer Spotlight – ANVE Saco de Papel Leather Clutch

ANVE is a small brand from Lisbon, Portugal, designing and making personal objects that become more beautiful as they age. Founded by Annett and Kerstin, this emerging brand’s Saco de Papel Leather Clutch had caught our hearts and attention to the duo’s work.

Drawing their inspiration from places such as Tokyo, Berlin, Capetown and the neighborhoods, small stores, craftsmanship and atmosphere of Lisbon, ANVE was conceived as they were drawing their ideas on paper napkins during coffee breaks. Soon, they realized that they make a good team, doing what they want to do – design things from the materials and skills found in Lisbon.

The Saco de Papel Clutch (Portuguese for paper bag), is a beautiful, single-piece leather clutch inspired by the paper bag – its structure and the way people carry it. “Paper bags are a timeless and universal phenomenon, drawing their beauty from their simplicity, humbleness, and functionality. By translating them into leather we turn them into a personal object which gets worn in and transformed by use. We found out that everyone has her/his own way to carry it – rolled up, flapped, holding it in one hand or squeezing it under the arm. ”

Due to the fact that the bags are made out of a single piece of leather, it’s a challenge finding the perfect flawless piece. This is why the bags are made in small, limited editions – so you should hurry up getting one for yourself, as they’re sold out quickly (but make sure to check regularly, as items may re-stocked and other colors are added). The different kinds of leather (Napa leather, suede) and different finishes give the clutches a different look and feel on each of the editions (which makes it harder to choose from… we could use one for everyday use, the other for nights out… too bad we can’t have the same luxurious feeling with paper bags…)
